Artist insight #15

Popstar Lemon Lord has released her debut album 'Be Blonde', written by herself, with her influences from Lady Gaga, Princess Diana, and much more, she's created a harmonious blend of her dance-pop and jazz beats with soothing undertones. We've had the chance to talk to them and ask a few questions about their journey and what their next goal is.

What's the story behind 'Be Blonde'

“Be Blonde” is my debut album, inspired by my slogan “To Infinity and Be Blonde.” My slogan is about going as far and high as you want in life and showing up as whatever version of yourself you choose to be at any time. The music comes from a place of freedom, self-love, joy, dance-pop, and girl power!

What inspired you to start creating music?

Before I was LL, I was a violinist and I worked all over the world on films and albums and with celebrities and on all sorts of projects. LL is my alter ego, and I created her because I was inspired to live a multidimensional life. Many of my idols have done this in different ways and I decided it would be a mortal sin to limit my creative spirit, so I said yes and I love living as two people. I finally feel so happy and free, and that I can do anything. xo

Are there any inspos? Or people you admire? "

Jim Carrey has an interesting life, as an actor and a painter. I love Lady Gaga — her pop and jazz dimensions are so innovative and cool. I also adore Princess Diana and the way she loved people and loved the world, and musically, The Spice Girls helped me to feel strong and beautiful and to embrace my songs and what I wanted to say as an artist. <3

"What is your creative process like?"

I write all my own music — all the melodies, chords, lyrics and everything. I usually write on a keyboard and make voice memo recordings of songs or pieces of songs. I take inspiration from tv shows and movies a lot, and sometimes from dreams, too, or things I see and hear in Los Angeles where I live. I am always listening for phrases or rhymes or progressions that I like and I record them in the voice memo app right away. Then I make demos from there, and the best songs get turned into finished versions that I release. :)

"What’s next for you?"

I am writing more songs now, also preparing for my first show, and I am making new merchandise. The pandemic is tricky here so patience is key — but I am eager to meet more Illemonati and to do lots more soon.

Thank you so much for streaming my songs and for these questions! - LL
