Happy new year! Hope this year goes much better for everyone. We are back after the holidays with another Artist Insight, this time featuring the European band SACROPOLIS. With a mix of indie and Alt-Rock, they remind us Two Door Cinema Club with certain tints of sound from Bombay Bicycle Club. With already establishing themselves as an upcoming artist they have certainly grown releasing numerous tracks already accompanied with positive support from their fans.
"Home", their latest single is out now and we got a chance to ask them a few questions about the single and their background as an upcoming band!
“How did the four of you meet and what made you start the band”?
The three of us, Tom, Jean and Leon were best friends at school and met Ben on a cold winter day while he was doing one of his street performances in Frankfurt. Something in our hearts told us that we needed to get this guy into our band. We discovered pretty fast that we had the same music taste and favourite bands. We shared a common urge and passion to create music and decided to start a band in 2013.
“How did you come up with this unique name for the band?”
During a night out, we randomly discovered, or should we say created the word 'Sacropolis', which, how we later understood, means 'Holy city' in old Greek. We immediately liked the concept and the multitude of possible interpretations for this name.
“What’s the main concept behind your new single 'Home'?"
'Home' is an empowerment anthem for all those who want to set out on new paths, far away from everyday life, out of the comfort zone, to finally find their true home. The place described may simply be a symbol of the identity of each and every one of us. It is much more about breaking out of your usual life to finally find out who or what you really are. 'Home' was the first song we’ve ever written. During the late stages of our teenage days, we wanted to set out on new paths and were highly triggered by questions like where is our home? Who are we? We’ve tried to answer those existential questions of life, by creating a song that gives a possible starting approach to this subject.
“What's your main goal for 2021?"
We’ll be starting freshly into the new year by releasing our third single 'The Sinner' on January 29th 2021. Afterwards, we will slowly but surely work our way to our debut EP which will be released during summertime after a couple more single releases. We really hope that we will be able to play some live shows again this summer. In any case, we’ll be continuing to write music and would like to record some new tracks as soon as possible.
It is amazing to see a group of best friends continue to consistently work on their music since 2013, we are so happy to see them progress and cannot wait to see them release their debut EP this year!
